🌿 A Major Milestone for Health and the Planet

The world has reached a new milestone in the fight against climate-related health risks. Tuvalu has officially become the 100th country to join the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH) β€” a growing global network dedicated to building climate-resilient and sustainable health systems.

With the recent addition of Cook Islands, Malaysia, and Tuvalu, the Alliance now includes 100 committed nations and over 95 partner organizations, all united by one goal: to protect human health from the impacts of climate change.

🌑️ Why Climate and Health Are Connected

Climate change doesn’t just affect the environment β€” it affects our bodies, too. Rising temperatures, extreme weather, and shifting disease patterns are placing pressure on health systems worldwide.

Countries that join ATACH commit to:

  • Building climate-resilient health systems that can withstand environmental shocks.
  • Developing low-carbon healthcare to reduce emissions and environmental impact.
  • Sharing knowledge, lessons, and best practices with other nations to accelerate progress.

These actions are part of the broader COP26 Health Agreement, launched to create greener, stronger health systems for everyone.

Each of the new members brings valuable experience and determination:

  • Malaysia is focusing on sustainability and resilience as it continues to grow economically while facing environmental challenges.
  • Cook Islands and Tuvalu, as small island developing states, face some of the most direct and urgent climate risks β€” from rising sea levels to severe storms β€” and have long championed action to protect both people and the planet.

🀝 A Global Effort for a Healthier Future

The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the new members and continues to encourage other countries to join the movement. Together, ATACH members are creating a shared platform where nations can exchange real-world solutions β€” from reducing hospital emissions to strengthening community health programs against climate threats.

The message is clear: Healthy people depend on a healthy planet.
As climate change continues to shape the world we live in, these 100 countries are proving that collaboration is key to protecting both. πŸŒŽπŸ’š
